So thinking I was onto something, I started reading about these topics, in articles such as:Īnd surely many more - forums and so on. The PC I am using has a regular BIOS, thus the stick works, the Mac has EFI, and the stick doesn't work. I have found out about EFI booting and it's idiosyncrasies - which also hasn't done much to relieve me of my skepticism towards anything Apple. Same result! None of the bootable sticks show up on the Macbook. So let's try them on the Macbook I have as well - if they boot here, then there is something up with the older iMac. I don't think all the USBs are faulty - especially since I tried them on this computer I am using now (Dell Latitude E6400 running LM), and they booted just fine. Another one from before with LM, one with Manjaro and I even made a new one with Ubuntu. Oh well, let's try some of the other bootable USBs I have lying around. I reboot the Mac, hold option, and the USB didn't show up on the iMac. Luckily "it is really easy", so I went ahead and got myself a USB, downloaded a fairly recent LM iso and even used balenaEtcher as per the video's suggestion.

So first I let Matthew McConaughey explain how to do this in this youtube video. However, these Macs I've been able to get hold of are not cooperating. I'm a very happy Mint user, and generally like to revive older hardware with this lovely OS. I've been trying at this for a few days now, with no luck.
